    Wiimmfi Introduction:

Wiimm had been analysing the Mario Kart Wii network traffic since November 2012 and had already written a helper tool named MKW-ANA. And so he decided to get together with Leseratte and other people to create the Wii-Server Project, known as "Wiimmfi" to replace Nintendo's servers for Mario Kart Wii and for other games if they were to have been shutdown.

    Preparing a Wii for Wiimmfi:

WARNING: DOING THIS WILL VOID YOUR WII'S WARRANTY. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU DO NOT WANT IT VOIDED.

*LETTERED STEPS INDICATE A CHOICE. CHOOSE ONE OR THE OTHER OR NONE AT ALL. DO NOT CHOOSE MORE THAN ONE.

    1. Have any SD Card (2 GB SanDisk recommended) and make sure it has a lot of space on it. The amount of space you need depends on how you choose to use Wiimmfi; I recommend at least 1 GB of free space. If you have a SDHC card that is fine too, but they aren't compatible with a few applications.

    2. Turn on your Wii and go to Wii Settings then click "Internet" and then "Console Information".

    3. Write down/remember/somehow keep your MAC Address in front of you and then go to http://please.hackmii.com where you are going to download the exploit known as LetterBomb and enter your MAC Address there and your System Menu version (U = NTSC-U, E = PAL, J = NTSC-J, K = NTSC-K).

    4. Bundle the HackMii Installer if you want the Homebrew Channel, aka HBC, which you will need in order to play other games online outside of Mario Kart Wii easily (it can also be done with Riivolution only, but it's complicated). Don't bundle it if you're just going to be playing Mario Kart Wii and have no need of Homebrew.

    5. Now fill out the captcha and then click to cut either the red or blue wire (doesn't matter).

    6. Extract the contents of this ZIP file to the ROOT of your SD Card (the drive letter). You can delete the readmes after extracting.

6a. (if you didn't bundle the HackMii Installer) Download this file and put it on your SD card root: http://www.mediafire.com/download/525k67j9asffvdm/boot(2).elf Rename it to boot.elf.

    7. Turn your Wii on and go to the Wii Message Board. Look at the recent week for a red letter with a bomb on it. Click it.

    8. After your Wii spazzes out which is completely normal for an exploit, which is what LetterBomb is, Riivolution or the HackMii Installer will load (exploits are also what void the warranty so once you do this, you cannot undo it).

    9. You're left with two options, you can either:

9a. (if you didn't bundle the HackMii installer) Install the Riivolution channel then exit to the Wii Menu.

9b. (if you bundled the HackMii Installer) Wait for HackMii installer to determine whether HBC can be installed on your Wii or not. After that, if it says "BootMii can be installed as Boot2", you have the chance of getting the BEST BRICK-PROTECTION POSSIBLE FOR ANY WII and you should jump for joy. If it doesn't and says "BootMii can be installed as IOS" (which is for most Wii owners), then your Wii is newer and you can't get BootMii as Boot2. Install HBC (which also installs BootMii as Boot2 or IOS, depending on how old your Wii is) and then exit the HackMii Installer and go to the Wii Menu.

    10. Delete the "HAEA" folder in the following location on your SD Card: SD Card:\private\wii\title. This contains LetterBomb and you shouldn't keep an exploit after you've already used it; it's risky.

Preparing a Wii U's vWii Mode for Wiimmfi:

WARNING: DOING THIS WILL VOID YOUR WII U'S WARRANTY.

An SDHC card will NOT work! You also will need a working Super Smash Bros. Brawl (SSBB) game disc with a data file that has NO stages in the Stage Builder; it should be empty.

    2. Download the exploit known as SmashStack from here: http://wiiubrew.org/w/images/4/4e/Smashstack.zip

    3. Extract the contents of the ZIP to the root of your SD Card (the drive letter).
*PAL/NTSC-K users must follow these additional steps in this guide: http://web.archive.org/web/20140326220421/http://giantpune.zzl.org/smashStackPK.html

3a. If you want Riivolution only, download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/525k67j9asffvdm/boot(2).elf and put it on the root. Rename it to boot.elf.

3b. If you want the Homebrew Channel (HBC) or more, download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/07mj83x8h0w0f0c/bootmini.elf and this file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/v3rhddr6cst34h5/boot(3).elf and put them on the root. Rename the second one to boot.elf

    4. Launch SSBB and go to the Stage Builder.

    5. After the game spazzes out, which is normal for an exploit, either Riivolution or the HackMii Installer will load (exploits are also what void the warranty so once you do this, you cannot undo it).

    6. You're left with two options, you can either:

6a. (if you're loading Riivolution) Install the Riivolution channel then exit to the vWii Menu.

6b. (if you're loading the HackMii Installer) Wait for HackMii installer to determine whether HBC can be installed on your Wii or not. Then Install HBC and then exit the HackMii Installer and go to the vWii Menu.

    7. Delete the "RSBX" (E = NTSC-U, P = PAL, J = NTSC-J, K = NTSC-K) folder in the following location on your SD Card: SD Card:\private\wii\title. This contains SmashStack itself and you shouldn't keep an exploit after you've already used it; it's risky.

Getting/Using Wiimmfi on a Properly Prepared System:

*LETTERED OR ROMAN NUMERAL'ED STEPS INDICATE A CHOICE. CHOOSE ONE OR THE OTHER OR NONE AT ALL. DO NOT CHOOSE MORE THAN ONE.

Method 1 (MKWII ONLY!) - Custom Tracks Grand Prix Revolution (CTGP-R) | EASY:
    1. Download the latest version of CTGP-R from here: http://www.chadsoft.co.uk and extract it to the root of the SD Card after it has finished downloading.

    2. Depending on what you did... you can either:

2a. (if you have Riivolution only) Load Riivolution and then make sure the option "CTGP Revolution Channel" is set to "Disabled" then turn "Copy MKW Save to the SD Card" on "Enabled" then click "LAUNCH". MKW will load regularly and it will copy your save file from your system memory to your SD Card. Now load Riivolution again and set the option "CTGP Revolution Channel" to "Enabled" and then click "LAUNCH".

2b. (if you have Homebrew) Load the Homebrew Channel then load the CTGP-R app... (you won't be able to copy your save over doing this, so I recommend 2.b.i.) or

2b.i. Load HBC then load the Riivolution HBC app--install it to your Wii Menu as a channel if you want. Then do the same thing as 2a.

    3. After the CTGP-R channel loads, follow the on-screen instructions and set up your preferences (I recommend haνing automatic updates ON and Save game on SD Card? ON). When it prompts you to update, do so. Once the update finishes, you will be able to go online.

For more information about CTGP-R, check out this thread: http://www.forums.mkboards.com/thre...0-and-upwards-no-homebrew-channel-needed.380/

Method 2 (ALL SUPPORTED GAMES) - The Homebrew Channel Wiimmfi Patcher | INTERMEDIATE:
    1. Download the HBC-based Wiimmfi patcher from here: http://chadsoft.co.uk/downloads/autowiimmfipatcher0.4.zip and extract it to the root of the SD Card.

    2. Put your disc in and load HBC, then load the Wiimmfi patcher app (YOU HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO PLAY ONLINE).

    3. Watch this video for more information:

Method 3 (ALL SUPPORTED GAMES) - Riivolution | HARD:
    1. Download WiiScrubber from here: http://www.wii-homebrew.com/download/nintendo-wii-downloads/pc-tools/wiiscrubber/download, then set it up, and then extract the files main.dol and StaticR.rel for the ISOs of the supported games you want to play online.

    2. Patch the two files to Wiimmfi using a tool that can do it.

    3. Make a folder structure on your SD card and place your two patched files in it.

    4. Make an XML that is coded to show options on the Riivolution menu for your folder structure and is able to load your folder structure.

    5. Launch the game and you should be able to play online. YOU MUST LAUNCH USING THE RETAIL DISC, THAT IS ALL RIIVOLUTION ACCEPTS.

Method 4 (ALL SUPPORTED GAMES) - Wiimmfi ISO Patcher + USB Loading | ADVANCED:
    1. Have a decently sized USB Hard Drive or USB Stick. I recommend at least 50 GB (though I use 8 GB, which sucks).

    2. Softmod your Wii or Wii U's vWii mode. Read this to learn how to softmod your Wii and this to learn how to softmod your Wii U's vWii mode. FOLLOW THE GUIDES VERY CAREFULLY OR YOU COULD BRICK YOUR WII OR WII U'S VWII MODE.

    3. Set up your drive for USB loading. I recommend the format FAT32, that's what I use. Check out this guide for more information on setting up FAT32: http://www.wiihacks.com/showthread.php?t=96770. You can also check out the other guides for the other formats. Also check this out if you want to play Gamecube games: http://www.wiihacks.com/showthread.php?t=103429

    4. Obtain the ISOs of the games you want to play online somehow. MKBoards does not promote piracy so do not ask how to obtain one publicly here! You can just LEGALLY rip your purchased game discs into ISOs using USB Loader GX, the WiiFlow USB Loader, Configurable USB Loader, or the Homebrew Application CleanRip. This is highly recommended over illegal methods and usually gives ISOs that have no errors!

    5. Depending on the game in question...

5a. (for MKWII) Download this and extract the contents into any folder on your computer: http://download.wiimm.de/wiimmfi/patcher/mkw-wiimmfi-patcher-v3.7z.

5b. (for other games) Download this and extract the contents into any folder on your computer: http://download.wiimm.de/wiimmfi/patcher/wiimmfi-patcher-v3.7z.

    6. Copy all ISOs you want to patch into this folder.

    7. Windows Users start the file called patch-wiimmfi.bat. Mac/Linux users start the file called patch-wiimmfi.sh .

    8. When all the games are patched, they will be in a folder called wiimmfi-images.

    9. Copy the contents of this folder to your properly configured USB Drive or USB Stick.

    10. Load the patched ISOs for the supported games using your favorite USB Loader and then you can play online on them.

Setting Your In-Game Region on Wiimmfi for the Wii U's vWii Mode:

By default, Wiimmfi will dump you in the middle of the ocean if you use a Wii U's vWii mode to access it, and the original way to change your region via the Settings menu does not work for vWii. To change your region on vWii, follow the steps below:

    The Wiimmfi Portal:

The Wiimmfi website, when logged into it, can act as a portal to various functions that can affect things on the website client-side, or can affect situations in-game (mainly for Mario Kart Wii, but it will also affect things for other games as well in the near future). It allows players to use very useful new features for Mario Kart Wii such as OPENHOST and kicking unwanted players from friend rooms if you're the host. This is also how server moderators ban disruptive players or cheaters from the server and how server administrators can unban banned users!

Check out this thread for more information about OPENHOST and other features the Wiimmfi Portal provides!: http://mkboards.com/forums/threads/openhost-wiimmfi-portal-guide.11052/

    Wiimmfi Reporting and Banning Process:

Unlike Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, where reported hackers didn't really get dealt with, Wiimmfi has an active team that moderates online activity on the servers. If you believe someone is cheating, all you need to do is report them on this thread. There is also another specific thread on Wii-Homebrew.com which gets seen more often by the moderating team, so it's best to use both threads. After you post a report, the team will review the accusation and then make the appropriate decision.

Go to this post to see which kinds of hacks are allowed all the time, which kinds are allowed only in private rooms, and which ones are not allowed at all (depending on the custom region that is being played in).

If you are banned on the Wiimmfi servers, that is it: GAME OVER. There are no ways around it unless you get an entire new console. You have been warned: DON'T CHEAT ON THESE SERVERS.

    Error Code List:

These are the main error codes for Wiimmfi. I color coded the ones that should actually matter to you. The non-color coded ones are either uncommon or insignificant to the user.

Anything in blue just means nothing is wrong on your end, the server is down for everybody. Just wait it out and it will be back up.

Orange and red are severity levels. The lighter oranges indicate a less serious error code, the darker oranges indicate a more serious error code, the red indicates a very serious error code, and the dark red indicates the most serious error code. All of the codes have a red outline around them because you want to avoid ALL of them, they all relate to BANS, which cannot be bypassed like they were with WFC. Error codes 23911 and 23913 are connection delays, which are like bans but not actually bans, however you still want to avoid them.

Anything bolded means you can't do anything about this error code, if you get it, you're fucked and cannot do whatever it is you want to do.

Anything in italics can probably be fixed by yourself if you tweak router settings, etc.

Anything in yellow means an automatic system kick/ban.

    23500 : Fatal HTTP Error

    23801 - 23879 : 238xx : Wait xx hours for console activation.
    23881 - 23887 : 2388y : Wait y days for console activation.
23899 : Console successfully registered. Wait 7 days for activation.

23901 : Server unavailable due to maintenance.
23902 : Too many users; try again later.
23903 : Console and profile creation disabled.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
23911 : Profile creation denied. Try 24h later.
    23912 : Profile is banned.
23913 : Console creation denied. Try 24h later.

    23914 : Console is banned.
    23915 : Abuse of a console identifier.

23916 : Proxies are not allowed.
    23917: Wiimmfi access denied.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    23921 : Unknown console.
23922 : This game has not been added to Wiimmfi yet.
23923 : Game is known by Wiimmfi, but disabled.
23924 : Wrong game id for current profile.

    23931 : Login failed.
    23932 : Illegal HTTP header.
23933 : Missing required login parameter.
    23934 : Invalid login parameter.
    23935 : Unknown login action.

    23941 : Missing required DLS1 parameter.
    23942 : Unknown DLS1 action.
    23943 : DLS1 file not found.

23971 : Don't use your own Ocarina codes.
23972 : Item cheats not allowed in this region.

    23991 : Database error.
    23998 : Not implemented yet.
    23999 : Internal error.

For information on more error codes, go here: http://wiimmfi.de/error

Other codes I want to mention, not listed here, that were used on WFC:
20110 : The WFC discontinued message. If you get this, Wiimmfi didn't patch correctly with whatever you're using to load it. You need to fix something and try again then it will work.

20100 : This used to mean you logged in too fast on WFC (and it still does for Wiimmfi in some situations), but now on Wiimmfi it means the login server is down for everyone and you can't go online. It's another one of those "wait it out" error codes.

51330 : Same as WFC; improper router configuration.

60000 : This used to mean jackshit on WFC, but on Wiimmfi, it means your friend code isn't in the Wiimmfi database, thus you cannot connect online with it until it is. Please visit the section below this one for more information and solutions on this specific error code.

86420 / 8XXXX : Same as WFC; there's too many clients interacting with the host and either the host's internet is too shitty or the NATNEG server is hiccuping. Wiimmfi is no longer responsible for these issues. If you keep having these issues, set your Wii up as a DMZ or port forward it to disable its firewall!

91010 : Can be exactly the same as it was on WFC; it means your router is fucking up OR it can mean you were playing in a friend room and the host of it kicked you, in which case instead of you automatically winning the match or race, you would get a black screen. Also your Mii name would show up and say next to it that it has gotten kicked on this page: http://wiimmfi.de/show-bans

    Error Code 60000:

This error code means your Friend Code isn't in the Wiimmfi database. You can do one of two things to put that Friend Code in the database:

    Method 1

Use the download link from here: http://forum.wii-homebrew.com/index.php/Thread/51831-Wiipid-extractor/ and run the app on the Homebrew Channel to send your code(s) to the database. You will need to wait up to 24 hours for the friend code(s) to be put into the database.

    Method 2

Log into the Wiimmfi Portal with your Wii-Homebrew.com credentials at this page: http://wiimmfi.de/login . Then go to http://wiimmfi.de/assign-console and type in your friend code (WITH the dashes) that you want to use on Wiimmfi and then click 'Assign'. Now connect to Wiimmfi and after you get Error Code 60000 on the game you connected with, go to the page http://wiimmfi.de/status and click the [set FC] button to send your code(s) that you want to use to the database. After that you will be presented with a set of instructions. Follow them and then you will need to wait up to 24 hours for the friend code(s) to be put into the database.

Please note the friend code web formula: http://wiimmfi.profeibe.at/index.php no longer works as of May 31st, 2014 when the last of the GameSpy servers got shutdown.

After you have used the app (Method 1) or the [set FC] button (Method 2), type this in your browser to check the status of your friend code: http://wiimmfi.de/nick/XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

XXXX-XXXX-XXXX detonates your friend code, replace the X's with the proper digits. You will want to see the status of retrieved, created, or app as these mean it is in the database and active means you've logged in with that FC at least once. If you see - then the friend code is not in the database and you cannot go online with it.

    Error Codes 23911, 23913, and 23899-23801:

    Legal Information:

Wiimm and Leseratte are native German developers, and their server is hosted in Germany. German law makes Wiimmfi LEGAL as long as the real servers are shut down, which they are. Nintendo could get upset about this, but they don't have the legal permission to do anything about it anymore.

TL;DR You don't have to worry about getting in trouble when using these servers. MKBoards also would not allow this at all if it were illegal.

When playing, don't forget to show your appreciation to Wiimm and his team. This server project has honestly been jaw-dropping with the results that have come out of it. Thank you Wiimm, Leseratte, and the rest of the team so much for doing this, seriously.

If Nintendo is not supporting the game any more, the amount of people who will play (I would think) will be few in number, leading to difficulty of achieving full worldwides and attaining their current level. Also, no one knows how well the server will work for sure.

There is something to be said for moving on and devoting time to becoming the best at the new game. MKW mechanics will be gone anyway as the game has similar mechanics to MK7, so why wouldn't you play that for the days you lack MKW? (If you do not have the game this would not apply.)

Sure, there will be a 9-10 day wait period, but is it really that hard to take a break for those days? I am planning on using those days to catch up with people who I only talk to with the sole purpose of racing. Often times I forget the personalities and uniqueness everyone possesses behind their skill for the game itself. (I know I am not the only one.)

Do as you want, but it is something in my opinion better left alone.

Some people, like me, can't afford a wii u right now. I don't see the problem with wanting to play this game a little more before I can get mk8

Like I said before, the server is meant for more than just MKW. Other WFC games that aren't MK I'm sure people still want to play ALONG with MK8.

I don't see the problem with this. I agree if people use it to desperately hold onto the Mario Kart Wii community it is a bit weird, but playing older games isn't refusing to move on. That would make all speed runners individuals who can't move on from the SNES-N64 era.

Funny how you're saying you support this and still say "let it go".

Then TT or something, the people still playing past the official servers shutting down is going to be next to nothing anyway.

    Update.

-MARIO KART DS OFFICIALLY ADDED AS A SUPPORTED GAME ON THE SERVER.

-As well as these other games:

    Animal Crossing DS
    Animal Crossing DS (Japan)
    Animal Crossing Wii
    Mario Kart Wii
    Pokemon Diamond-Pearl
    Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
    Super Smash Bros. Brawl

-A nice bit of info, also:

[2:32:43 AM] Torran: The servers may be rough, they're technically supposed to be alpha still.
[2:33:08 AM] Torran: Also, this may pose a problem. If you happen to get a FC that turns out to be owned by another player on the real server.
    [2:33:50 AM] ψ~[HD]★κD~ψ: oh my...
[2:34:00 AM] ψ~[HD]★κD~ψ: What would happen...
[2:34:13 AM] Torran: One of them would become invalidated.
[2:35:00 AM] Torran: Preferrably the original owner.
    [2:35:24 AM] ψ~[HD]★κD~ψ: Hopefully
[2:35:27 AM] ψ~[HD]★κD~ψ: most original owners
    [2:35:34 AM] ψ~[HD]★κD~ψ: wouldn't play after 5/20
[2:36:10 AM] Torran: True. But still it'd be nice if it weren't working right now actually. Then there's no chance for a collision that you'd have to resolve after the servers come up.
[2:36:39 AM] ψ~[HD]★κD~ψ: Yeah... I see how that can be a problem.

I really hope MKW isn't the only thing people log into using these servers. And I hope they at least TRY MK8 if they can afford it.

I'm defending it because I still like the game, my older games, and know many who still like it and their older games.

Once again, you are not other people. Let people do what they want. If they think there's a point of modding to play, that's all that matters.

And no, this won't fail LMFAO. Several years of work have been put into this by Wiimm, and he's not just going to let that all crash and burn.

You are such a pessimist it's sad.

What's the fucking crime of being able to play both MKW and MK8?

    Just. Stop.

Unfortunately for Mr. Wiimm it will fail and again I am very certain about this. Thousands of people daily use MKW servers but only a few hundred use "CTGP Riivo" of those 100-200 I would guess 25-40 will use this. Simply not enough people to carry on a game past its death.

And this goes for whatever other games there are to be played.

Im not a pessimist actually, I am a realist.

Sure people can do what they want but as I said this won't work. Infact in July when MK8 is booming I guarantee you will see bearly anyone on MKW. Its hard enough to find clan wars on a Friday night already LMAO.

Who said anything about wars? And more than 40 will use it. You're not a realist, you underestimate.

And you really don't understand what games people who own a Wii and DS care about. You give MKW too much credit.

And if clan wars die, so be it. WWs are fine.

You're going to be proved wrong, the modding community doesn't give up. If we, for fuck's sake, could implement CHEAT PROTECTION on Mario Kart Wii of all games, we can make a functioning private server for all.

You gotta put time into that equation bro.

Anyway, can this thread go back on topic? I'm sick of the arguing here.

This thread is for if you want to play on the servers. If you don't want to, get off the thread and keep your opinions to yourself. You're only making yourself look bad.

Why is this a big deal... If people want to play let them. I'll mostly just TT anyway, I doubt I'll play online much, if at all really. Mewwy is right, TTs do have their own level of enjoyment. No luck involved for the most part. But KD has a point also, if people still want to play the game, let them.

Wow, @Smoke. Is it really that hard to understand that there are people that exist who would use this for more than just Mario Kart Wii? Not only that, but not everyone who uses this for Mario Kart Wii are overly attached to to the game and unwilling to "move on"? It's called not having the money for a Wii U. It's not nearly as dirt cheap as some people try to make it out to be. People who can't move on to Mario Kart 8 due to the lack of the system it's exclusive to will use this. Though, I can agree on one thing; it'll probably not be very active, considering the hoops one must go through to get this to work. Majority of the casuals will never know it exists, leaving the normal Worldwide racing community a wasteland (if it's even going to work for normals), while some CTGP-ers will just not bother. For Wiimm's sake, however, I hope it can be considered a success in some regard.

There's still gonna be enough people to play online with the new servers. I don't see why you have to hate on the fun.

can you guys please shut up already. I totaly agree with the sentences from KD on the top of the thread.
Why should you always go with the latest game, if the past games were simply better. For example there is still a community around Sm64 speedrunning and hacking, and nobody tells them to move on aswell. Sm64 was simply better than all the super mario stuff that was released after. Nobody here is like "MKW is the best game ever, nothing will ever improve it", everyone is fine with giving mk8 a try. But in case nintendo messed it up (thats what it seems to me, judging by the current trailers), why shouldnt people be able to continue MKW? Also maybe there are some people around that are like "Hey Mk8 looks great, definitaly gonna buy it, but well MKW was also a good game, i guess it will be fun to play it from time to time again." Seriously, if you do not like mkw, and dont plan to continue playing it at all, its completly fine, but leave the people alone that dont share your opinion. god...

    Nice work btw. Wiimm

Btw. the only argument i keep hearing against he new servers are, people should stop living in the past. Like did you actually take some time thinking of what you said or did you just copy that from some wannabe-deep other forum. Why do people that like MKW live in the past? MKW is not my life, its a game i simply like playing. Am i also living in the past, if i dont wear the latest clothes all the time, listen the latest music, have the latest mobile phone, etc? sorry that i actually spend time on thinking what is good in my opinion and what is worth buying, and not just waste money on every trend that is currently around.

Thinking everything that is old is automatically better, is the one thing, judging everything, no matter if its old or not, by its quality is the other. For Example Mk8 looks shit to me, but i absolutly loved pokemon x/y, from the first time i saw it, and think its pretty much the best pokemon game of all time. And ill even give MK8 a chance so please please please just shut up. I also dont go on and spam every MK8 thread telling how bad it is, and what a bad taste people have that like it.
